voz narrativa; Gregory Claeys (2017), M. Keith Booker (1994) e Tom Moylan (2000)
feminina.
Through a post-classical narratological approach, this dissertation analyzes the way in which female characters are constructed in The Handmaid's Tale (2017), by Canadian writer Margaret Atwood, from the critical-dystopian context in which they are inserted. In order to understand how subjectivity and the inner world of the characters are constructed, mainly the protagonist Offred’s, we have relied on the studies carried out by Uri Margolin (2007) and Susan S. Lanser ( 1992) on the literary character and the narrative voice; by Gregory Claeys (2017), M. Keith Booker (1994) and Tom Moylan (2000) on the dystopian genre; by Ildney Cavalcanti (1999), Raffaella Baccolini (1999) and Jessica Norledge (2022) on feminist dystopian literature, as well as the concepts presented by Robert Humphrey (1954), Alfredo Leme Coelho de Carvalho (2012) and Alan Palmer (2004) about stream of consciousness novels, interior monologue and the fictional mind of the character. This dissertation aims to understand different aspects related to the constitution of the characters and thus contribute to the study of a work of great relevance in contemporary literature and of female authorship.
