Adaptando "A Queda da Casa de Usher" para o cinema: o caso de Jess Franco

Resumo
Esta pesquisa tem como objetivo analisar a adaptação do conto “A queda da casa de
Usher” (1839), de Edgar Allan Poe, por parte do diretor espanhol Jess Franco, na versão
cinematográfica intitulada Neurosis – The Fall of the House of Usher (1987). A
proposta é discutir como o diretor busca transpor para o cinema tanto a questão da
espacialidade gótica quanto o aspecto da casa mal-assombrada, presentes no conto de
Poe. Para tal, focaremos em algumas cenas do filme. Franco adaptou o respectivo conto
de Poe três vezes recorrendo a diferentes títulos e enredos: em 1983, o diretor lançou El
Hundimiento de la Casa Usher; em 1984, a segunda adaptação recebeu o título de Los
Crímenes de Usher; em 1987, foi a vez de Revenge in the House of Usher ser lançado
no mercado. O título deste último foi renomeado Neurosis – The Fall of the House of
Usher quando de seu lançamento em vídeo. A pesquisa visa contribuir para a fortuna
crítica da obra de Poe em geral, do conto em particular, do filme aqui contemplado e da
obra do diretor Jess Franco, ainda pouco conhecido no Brasil.
This research aims at analyzing the adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe's tale “The Fall of Usher's House” (1839) by Spanish director Jess Franco, in his version titled Neurosis - The Fall of the House of Usher (1987). The objective is to discuss how the director seeks to transpose to the cinema both the Gothic spatiality and the question of the haunted house, present in Poe’s tale. To do so, we will focus on some scenes from the film. Franco adapted the tale three times resorting to different titles and storylines: in 1983, the director released El Hundimiento de la Casa Usher; in 1984, the second adaptation received the title Los Crímenes de Usher; in 1987, it was the turn of Revenge in the House of Usher to be released in the movies. The latter was renamed Neurosis - The Fall of the House of Usher when it was released on video. The research aims at contributing to the critical fortune of Poe's works in general, the tale’s in particular, as well as that of the film here addressed and of Jess Franco’s works, a director still rather unknown in Brazil.
