Procuramos

This study analyzes the occupation movements in 2015 against the shutting down of public schools in the city of São Paulo, and its implications on how history is taught. The main goals of this study are: a) to analyze the students’ protest practices and activities developed during the occupation period; b) to examine how these individuals are represented in education, schools, history teaching and history knowledge c) to reflect on how the teaching of History was affected as a result of the demands, and actions of the 2015 high school students. Through internet documents produced by the students, as well as interviews, we seek to understand in what ways youth can affect school institutions, in terms of structure, rules, and consequently, how history is taught. We seek to discuss how the students, in their experience of the occupation, played a role in reforming the school institutions, and thus laid their claim in a part of History. As a result of this extensive research process, we propose a series of new strategies as to the teaching of History. They can be found on Ocupahistoria (http://www.ocupahistoria.com.br) with their respective source documents and academic articles.
