Green areas play an important role in urban spaces and can represent a way of moving towards the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG 11, which concerns making cities more inclusive, safe and sustainable, contributing to people’s quality of life. To understand the relationships between green areas and human beings, environmental perception studies can be carried out. In this sense, this study aimed to investigate the environmental perception of individuals in relation to Parque da Juventude (PJ), located in the city of São Paulo (SP), in order to identify how much this green area contributes to the inclusion and improvement of the quality of people's lives. To this end, semi-structured forms were completed through interviews with PJ users, to characterize the socioeconomic profile of the interviewees, understand the use made of the green area, characterize and analyze the environmental perception of the research participants and evaluate the potential for meeting the SDG 11. The data were analyzed using simple descriptive statistics, when relevant, and interpreted using content analysis. The results obtained indicated that the park has socio-environmental importance, contributing to improving the quality of life of those interviewed and environmental quality, in addition to having potential for social inclusion. With regard to meeting SDG 11, the area still presents problems regarding the suggested goals, mainly with regard to the safety of the female public and the accessibility of people with disabilities or mobility difficulties, and the space demands investments in its internal infrastructure, in order to realize its inclusion potential more effectively.
