The behavior of several kinds of bone transplants of the zygomatic arch in rabbits were studied. Autogenous, fresh homogenous and frozen homogenous transplants were carried out and assessed through scintigraphy and histopathology within post-surgical periods of two, six and 16 weeks. Scintigraphics rates decreased after longer periods of assessment which also occurred in relation to osteoblastic activity. The osseous neoformation has incresead as time went by as well as the viability of the bone marrow and the fusion of the cortices. Frozen homogenous transplants behavior seemed to be similar to the autogenous transplants, although with weaker responses. Fresh homogenous transplants showed the highest rates concerning osteoclastic activity on later phase and sharp fall of osteoblastic activity over the same period, which suggested a higher absorption trend. It has been concluded that frozen homogenous transplants have maintened their osteoinductive capability, which justifies their clinical use.
