This work deals with reports of teaching practices published in journals with public and unrestricted access. The objective was to understand the importance of this type of publication for the professional development of teachers and the educational field. Its purpose was to build knowledge about the practices and value their writing and publication, by teachers, based on the identification of concrete possibilities for their use. The methodology used was bibliographical research, through documentary study, articles and journals accessed on the internet, using content analysis. A compilation of some journals focused on education and teaching was carried out, their analysis regarding the presence of reports of practices and/or research on practices, regarding the elements present in their focus, scope and submission rules and, with this, the interpretation of the information thus obtained. Thus, out of a total of 25 journals analyzed, 19 contained one or more reports of teaching practices. And of the 76 articles analyzed in these journals, 32 were publications of practice reports and 44 were publications of different types of research on practices. The main results stand out: 1) At least two terminological definitions of practice reports, selected from the references consulted, one by Lopes Viegas and Pinto (2018) and one by Delmanto and Faustinoni (2009), which have the similarity of being descriptions or detailed records about teaching practices that occurred and that address, in the most complete way possible, the dynamics carried out in a class or activity; 2) Its differentiation in relation to other genres of recording professional teaching performance, such as biographies, autobiographies, life stories and teachers' diaries; 3) The identification, in a theoretical way, in the literature consulted, of some contributions they have for teaching professional development, such as sharing, reflection and transformation of their own practice and, also, for the educational field with the production of source material for research and, consequently, to promote improvements in teaching practices; 4) Finally, characteristics related to the process of publication in journals, including periodicity, the minimum degree required of authors, models or templates for writing reports and the definitions given by journals, when existing, about the accepted reports and their origin, in practices carried out or in different types of research, the section in which they are published and when they must be present in a specific item within the textual body of the article.
