The Early Intervention (EI) actions are aimed at children between 0 and 6 years of age with developmental delays or at risk through multidisciplinary monitoring. Its recommended practices relate to actions that also include families and consider their life contexts, with recent studies pointing to the effectiveness of its results and benefits. The objective of this study was to identify, analyze and understand the benefits of EI for families supported in the metropolitan region of Baixada Santista in the State of São Paulo. Two studies were carried out. The first is a scoping review based on the Joannna Briggs Institute and PRISMA-Scr protocols, answering the question: How do family members of children with developmental delays or disabilities understand the benefits (outcome or support received) from early intervention services? 55 articles were found and analyzed, being organized into four different cores: EI team, skills and collaborative practices; Family empowerment and self-efficacy; Participation, personal needs and Quality of Family Life; Access to information and services. The second study refers to empirical, descriptive and quantitative research, which consists of adapting the content of the items to the Brazilian reality of the Questionnaire for Identification of the Benefits of Early Intervention for the Family, developed in Portugal, and its application with families of children with developmental delays or disabilities from 0 to 6 incomplete years who are in the process of being assisted in an EI in the metropolitan region of Baixada Santista in the State of São Paulo. The results obtained allowed us to conclude that families perceive benefits through EI, mainly in terms of factors related to the child's development. Although no statistically significant differences were observed between these perceptions and the sociodemographic variables of the parents and the child, length of follow-up or support received outside the EI, an association was observed between the frequency of attendance and the knowledge/information and control/co-responsibility domains. The conclusions support the need to strengthen public policies on EI in Brazil and create continuing education for professionals in the area, with this study contributing to knowledge about the benefits of EI support for families.
