If the problem of Aby Warburg (1866-1929) focused on the question of posthumous lives in Antiquity at the time of the Renaissance, the topic of the orientation of man by celestial stars ran through his intellectual work at a constant pace. Aware that his legacy extends in his writings, his library and his Atlas of Images, we seek to understand the role of the astrological theme for his conceptualization of a cultural science - Kulturwissenschaft. We identified the presence of the astrological theme throughout his textual production and analyzed a small set of writings, committed to the rescue of the referenced iconographic and literary sources, denoting the choices that were basic to him. We started with the studies in which he dealt with ancient astral gods in rhetorical images migrating between Northern and Southern Europe; we entered his writings on the frescoes in Ferrara in a circulation that broke with the historic East x West barriers, and we conclude with his more mature analyzes of the hermetic-Hellenistic heritage common to Western Modernity. Assuring that the renewal of pagan antiquity in the Renaissance inherited astrological conceptions from Hellenistic Greek mythology, intermediated by Indian and Arab demonology, Warburg expanded the notion of Renaissance and the very idea of the Ancient. In tracking down the details that exposed coexistences, contradictions and inverted meanings of the classical tradition - recurrent and reactive, he acted as a seismograph of the polar tensions immanent in the art making. In an anti-disciplinary key that considers art in its context, he investigated the paths and imagetic formulations of the ancient astrological imagery. Asking about the struggle of modern man to free himself from medieval servility for rationality, he saw in the conflict between worship and calculation (from monsters to the sphere) the psychological need for spiritual guidance that is perennial to the human condition. From a perspective of approximation between Art History and Cultural Sciences, he considered images, arts, and pathos formulations as historical testimonies at the same time participants in cultural life, outlining a new history of art scientific-cultural.
