Resumo
O poder pastoral é essencial para entendermos a dinâmica político-teológica do pontificado de Gregório I (590 – 604). Para melhor entender este fenômeno, a presente pesquisa empregará o conceito de governamentabilidade, desenvolvido por Michel Foucault, para melhor compreender o desenvolvimento do poder pastoral nas sociedades mediterrânicas e no seio da Igreja cristã. A monografia se constrói destinada a compreensão da teologia gregoriana, de seus propósitos, assim como da dinâmica das relações de poder entre o papado e a corte de Constantinopla, e a movimentação de Gregório frente aos conflitos com os lombardos na península Itálica. A Regula pastoralis e o Registrum espitolarium se mostram como fontes importantes neste aspecto. Ambas serão abordadas para mapear a dinâmica de poder encarada por Gregório e os problemas enfrentados durante o seu pontificado. A hipótese principal da pesquisa é que estes textos constituem uma das chaves da expansão de uma Igreja latina atuante e que chegou até os confins do mundo conhecido.
Pastoral power is an essential dimension on the political-theological dynamics of the pontificate of Gregory I (590 - 604). The objective of the current research is to better understand this phenomenon. The research is based the concept of governmentality, developed by Michel Foucault, as a key to read the development of pastoral power in Mediterranean societies and within the Christian Church. The current monograph is addressed a variety of questions: Gregorian theology and its purposes; the dynamics of power relations between the papacy and the court of Constantinople; and Gregory's movement amidst conflicts with the Lombards in the Italic Peninsula. The Regula pastoralis and the Registrum espitolarium are important sources in this respect. The research addresses them to map out the power dynamics faced by Gregory and the problems faced by him. The main hypothesis of the research is that these texts are crucial elements for the expansion of an active Latin Church that reached the ends of the known world.
