In the 19th century, German romantic thought, largely marked by national issues, turned to different literary manifestations possible to apprehend and explain to Germans their origins and their history. The folk tales collected by the Grimm brothers and first published in 1812 were quite relevant at this time. It is believed here that the short story Snow White can be useful for understanding the romantic moment, with its traditionalist ideals, which as literature helped in the construction of stereotypes about the feminine. It is intended to analyze the tale from the ideas of gender and representation, as a way of understanding human relations, defining their identities and how they are formed and put from the differences in social relations. The source will be discussed in order to build new meanings and dialogues, enabling a new perception of the feminine from the role of the heroine and her stepmother, put as antagonist. From these points, it is possible to deduce that literature as a cultural object transmitted and took to itself conservative thoughts and constructions that would directly affect social and everyday life. Traditions and general customs were limited in order to build an imagined union that in turn affected the perception of the female figure, so the transmission and representation of political and social wills were made through a literary and fanciful language.
