Introduction: The Direct Assessment of Functional Status - Revised (DAFS-BR) is an ecological assessment measure, which assesses the performance of elderly people in Daily Living Activities (ADL). In Brazil, there is a shortage of functional assessments standardized for the reality of the country, especially ecological assessments of performance in the ADL. Methods: The study was accomplished out in 4 stages: readaptation of items from DAFS-BR; evaluation of cultural, conceptual, idiomatic and semantic equivalences of items readapted for a committee of experts; readaptation of the application manual of instruments and analysis of the equivalences of these adapted items; pre-test of the new version with occupational therapists. Results: In the 1st stage, 2 domains were suggested to be readjusted: Ability to Deal with Money and Communication. From the 1st evaluation round of the equivalences by the committee, 4 more domains were included in the process of readjustment. Three rounds of equivalence assessment were accomplished, and in the 1st round all items obtained 100% of equivalences. In the 2nd round, the agreement rate was 85% and the disagreeing items were changed accordingly to the suggestions made. In the 3rd round, the agreement rate on all equivalences was of 100%. In the pre-test phase, 139 suggestions for updating terms, formatting, and spelling were made. Conclusions: This process has made available the new version of DAFS-BR, which is adequate to Brazilian culture, with readaptations on 3 domains, in addition to the creation of new tests, such as sending e-mail, sending messages on the WhatsApp® application, and using the credit / debit card
