Sexual violence against women is present in all areas of daily life – in public places, at work, and in the household. The literature on the subject makes a rich contribution on the correlations of this type of violence with the capitalist form of production, including the ways in which it occurs and the impacts on women's health, among other aspects. In this context, the aim of this paper is to study the repercussions of sexual violence on women's lives, according to how the victims themselves understand them. To this end, this study examines a long historical process, from the establishment of patriarchy to capitalism, and seeks to analyze the ways in which sexual violence leads to changes in women's lives. For this, the study followed a methodology based on qualitative semi-structured interviews, guided by a interview protocol, focusing on women victims of sexual violence, over 18 years old, attended at the Center for Assistance to the Victim of Sexual Violence (Navis), Hospital das São Paulo Clinics, University of São Paulo School of Medicine (HCFMUSP). This method allowed to unveil consequences in the affective relationships, family, in the studies, in the work and, finally, in the way of living. In other words, social isolation and the stigma of society in relation to women victims of sexual violence appeared as fundamental elements in the strategies presented by each woman to return to daily life. Although the issue of violence against women is currently being widely discussed, it remains, from an academic point of view, to decipher the repercussions on the lives of victims in greater depth, as well as the lack of advances in public policies that can lead to gender equality. It is hoped with this research to get some light to inform actions in defense of women.
