Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is an important compressive neuropathy of the upper extremity. Wrist orthosis and gliding exercises are among the main resources of the treatment. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of wrist orthosis and tendon and median nerve gliding exercises on symptoms and function in individuals with CTS. Five women with a mean age of 51.4 years diagnosed with CTS used an orthosis at night associated with tendon and median nerve gliding exercises for 60 days. The Douleur Neuropathique 4 Questionnaire (DN4), the Short-Form McGill Pain Questionnaire (SF-MPQ) and the Boston Questionnaire were applied in three evaluation sessions: (I) before treatment, (II) after 30 days of treatment, (III): after 60 days of treatment. The Friedman test was used in analyzes with a significance level ≤0.05. The SF-MPQ values showed a statistically significant difference with a reduction in the sensory domain between before and after 60 days of treatment (p=0.002); and reduction in the total score between before and after 60 days (p=0.004) and between 30 and 60 days (p=0.043). There was no statistically significant difference in the DN4 comparisons (p=0.801). The Symptom Severity Scale values showed a statistically significant reduction between before and after 30 days (p=0.017), and between before and after 60 days (p=0.006). Our results show that the proposed treatment is effective in the medium term for reducing symptoms and improving function in individuals with carpal tunnel syndrome.
