This work presents a bibliographic review and didactic purposals to undestand some designed methodologies used to determine the Earth's sphericity and investigate its orbital motion. In order to assist the teaching-learning process, we developed didactic proposals concerning orbital movement, observing the length of the shadows produced by the objects located at a fixed point along the day. The earth shape was investigated by observing the shadows produced by objects located on a flat surface and over a curved surface. The designed proposals about the earth shape and orbital movement are designed to present the relevant concepts intuitively to stimulate the students and promote the investigative approach to learning. The didactic proposals are based on studies published in the literature, employed by several scientists to determine the Earth's sphericity and investigate its orbital movement. The addressed concepts are related to "Earth and Universe" in the Natural Sciences and its technologies field from the Brazilian Common National Curriculum Base (BNCC). The intention is to make the physics teaching-learning process more attractive to promote a civic, critical, and reflective education concerning the world and universe's laws.
