Resumo
Este estudo investiga a percepção do egresso sobre a influência da
Universidade Aberta à Terceira Idade (UATI) vinculada à Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP) na sua qualidade de vida. Em sua primeira parte, apresenta reflexões sobre o envelhecimento populacional, os direitos do idoso, a Universidade Aberta à Terceira Idade e a qualidade de vida. Como método de aproximação ao objeto de estudo, foi desenvolvida uma pesquisa com abordagem qualitativa. Utilizou-se entrevista semi-estruturada a partir de núcleos direcionadores, com 14 egressos da UATI/UNIFESP. Os dados foram
trabalhados pela análise de conteúdo onde identificamos unidades de registro e de contexto que geraram categorias de análise. Os resultados apontam a importância dos domínios: psicológico e relações sociais, da qualidade de vida, para o egresso da UATI/UNIFESP e sua melhora após a vivência no curso dessa universidade. Os relatos encontrados citam a importância do curso da UATI/UNIFESP para a sua ampliação de mundo e sua forma distinta de se relacionar com a vida. A ressignificação da vida após a participação no curso da UATI/UNIFESP também foi encontrada, assim como: o aumento da autoestima, a melhora no estado depressivo e a mudança de comportamento, com o idoso experimentando uma maior motivação no seu dia-a-dia. Os resultados confirmam a importância das relações sociais para a qualidade de vida do idoso. A pesquisa demonstrou que a Universidade da Terceira Idade tem alcançado seus objetivos de melhora na qualidade de vida, integração social, desenvolvimento pessoal e coletivo, reconstrução de novos planos de vida e transformação pessoal. É nesse contexto que ela aparece como um local propício para o desenvolvimento do potencial do idoso, seu reconhecimento como indivíduo inerente à sociedade, com suas experiências e particularidades. Esses achados são indicativos de que é possível envelhecer bem e de que a educação, oferecida por programas para a terceira idade, é um poderoso preditor de um envelhecimento feliz e com qualidade.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the perception of senior adults about the influence of the University of the Third Age (UATI), a program of the University Federal of São Paulo (UNIFESP), on their quality of life. The first part of the work is dedicated to study the aging of the population, the seniors’ rights, the University of the Third Age and their quality of life. A qualitative research was developed. Semi-structured interviews were applied to fourteen alumnus of UATI/UNIFESP. A thematic analysis was used to obtain data. They were collected by means of analysis of content where we identified units of registration and context, which produced categories of analysis. Results have shown the importance of psychological and social interactions to the quality of life of UATI/UNIFESP alumnus and their improvement after the course. The testimonies pointed out the importance of the UATI/UNIFESP course to broaden their world and their special form to deal with life. Life gained different sense after participating in the course. Additionally, it was also observed increase of self-esteem, improvement of depressive state and change of behavior, leading to an enhancement of seniors’ motivation to daily life. The results confirmed the importance of social relationships to the seniors’ quality of life. The research demonstrated that the University of the Third Age is reaching its goals towards improvement of quality of life, social integration, personal and collective development, rebuilding of life plans and personal transformations. In this context, UATI is a suitable organization to promote the development of the seniors’ potential, their acceptation as an individual inherent to the society, with all their experiences and particularities. These findings are indications that it is possible a smooth aging and that education, provided by programs dedicated to seniors, is a powerful support for a glad and high quality aging.
