This research proposes a reflective analysis of the poetic work of Herberto Helder, observing the process of creation in his poetry, as well as the relationship between the aspects of the sacred and eroticism in the body representation. It is found that the herbertian poetry is in a dialectic with the body seeking transcendence, becoming the appropriate space for the materialization of desire. Thus, the investigation of the theme ended up constituting, finally, support for the study of the production of the works, realizing that the corporal alterity in the process of creation is not only manifested in poetry, but also in the writer’s form of composition. It is observed, then, that in the author's writing, there is an erotic potency that will be essential to his poetic creation, being deconstructed by the meaning of the word, while relating to the body. In this way, the hypothesis is that eroticism imposes a violence against the word and the body, being necessary for the work of creation. In this sense, our search is for the presence of eroticism in the works of Herberto Helder, privileging the texts where the image of creation is found, a hypothesis that will require the revision of some theories employed in contemporary Portuguese literature.
