The present work sought to analyze the narratives present in the diaries composed by the English explorer and archaeologist, Gertrude Bell (1868-1926), during the years from 1877 to 1919. The aim was to outline the path that led her to the leading role in British Imperial policies and the construction of her narrative about non-European societies, which proved to be impregnated with colonial discourses of barbarism x civilization. Bell's figure presented a contradiction between her personal affections about these societies and the discourse adopted about them, based on racial and cultural prejudices that proved to be full of continuity and ruptures throughout their narratives. These contradictions present in her figure were the awakening of the interest of this research, which tried to expose them throughout the writing process.
