For an individual to be able to deal well with his personal finances, it is essential that at some point in his life he has had contact with financial education. In this context, this work aims to understand the importance of financial education in people's lives since basic education. The methodology used to carry out this research was the document analysis of the National Common Curricular Base (BNCC) and a data survey, in which three professors from each of the Brazilian States were interviewed via questionnaire, totaling seventy-eight professors who teach subjects in basic education (public education – elementary and high school). Financial education is not included in the subjects offered by Public Schools in primary and secondary education in Brazil. Among the results obtained, it appears that more than three quarters of the responding teachers never received any training on financial education. Even though they are aware of the importance of financial planning in the personal development of students and how this subject can teach them to acquire rational financial habits, most of the responding teachers do not feel prepared to teach this type of content.
