A mídia e
do papel do farmacêutico no combate a obesidade.
Obesity rates have been growing alarmingly in recent decades, to the point that it is considered an epidemic by the World Health Organization. The media and social networks present a thin, slender body as the ideal of beauty, and influence people in their search for the so-called "perfect body", leading many individuals to undergo very restrictive diets or excessive physical exercise, or even look for miraculous solutions, which promise rapid weight loss. In this context, many people turn to formulas from masterful pharmacies, where combining several compounds in a single formulation is possible, with the necessary dosage adjustment at an affordable price. In these formulations, drugs such as diuretics, laxatives, thyroid hormones, and herbal medicines are often combined, often irresponsibly. The treatment of obesity is complex and requires the help of several professionals. Much more than an aesthetic issue, obesity has become a global health problem, being classified as a chronic disease. The objective of the present work was to discuss the pharmacological treatment of obesity, highlighting the use of masterful formulations and presenting the possible risks in the association of various compounds present in weight loss formulations, in addition to also addressing approved medications or those in the process of being approved, as well as such as the importance of the role of the pharmacist in combating obesity.
