Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of the Brazilian meditation program Mágica da Meditação, comparing it to the international program K5 Mindful Schools, using mental health, socioemotional skills, and mindfulness skills indicators. Methods: Quantitative-qualitative study, controlled trial. Seventy-eight public school students, aged 9 to 11, were included, randomized by cluster: Program 1 (international) and Program 2 (national). Each group participated in 10 sessions of 30 minutes. Pre- and post-intervention instruments were applied: Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ), Child and Adolescent Mindfulness Measure (CAMM), Emotion Regulation Questionnaire for Children and Adolescents (ERQ-CA), and Thematic Drawing-Story. Results: Pre-intervention SDQ data revealed abnormal levels in conduct problems (86%), peer relationship problems (49%), and total SDQ score (42%). Program 1 (P1): Participation in P1 showed a low correlation between hyperactivity and SDQ Total effectiveness (r = 0.247) and between peer problems and SDQ Total effectiveness (r = 0.258). Content analysis indicated a higher occurrence of "lack of emotional regulation" (14%) and "disinterest" (21%) post-intervention. Program 2 (P2): Participation in P2 showed a moderate positive correlation for emotional symptoms and SDQ Total effectiveness (r = 0.447), conduct problems and SDQ Total effectiveness (r = 0.552), and hyperactivity and SDQ Total effectiveness (r = 0.567). Post-intervention content analysis highlighted a higher occurrence of "well-being and kindness" (39%) and "emotional regulation and resilience" (32%). In the analysis of CAMM effectiveness pre- and post-intervention, compared to the children's age, Program 2 showed a positive difference for 9-year-olds (2.000) and 10-year-olds (0.619). In Program 1, a positive difference was observed only for 11-year-olds (2.077). Conclusions: In this study, the Mágica da Meditação program was correlated with more positive effects for the students, particularly in enhancing socioemotional and mindfulness skills.
