This research analyzes the rise of British nationalism with a conservative profile in the context of the campaign for the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union (“Brexit”) in 2016. From the intersection between British nationalism and national border control policies, it is possible to verify that British identity is based on historically constructed ethnocentric and racist elements that triggered political positions against the presence of immigrants in the contemporary context. Thus, it is understood how such nationalism articulates and fosters restrictive border policies by making certain types of immigrants responsible for the worsening of the British social crisis. For this purpose, this research uses bibliography produced in the United Kingdom and reports published by the British newspaper The Daily Express, whose political position is biased towards nationalist and extreme right values, in addition to having direct links with members of the party that took ahead in the Brexit campaign, the UKIP (UK Independence Party).
