Located within the field of educational historical studies, this work aims to reconstruct the professional and intellectual trajectory of Maria Nilde Mascellani (1931 - 1999) and highlight her role during the 1950s to 1990s, in the pursuit of renewal and promotion of education in the state of São Paulo. A graduate in Pedagogy from the Universidade de São Paulo (USP), Mascellani stood out in her career as the pedagogical advisor for the first experimental secondary classes in the public school system of São Paulo, the general coordinator of the Serviço do Ensino Vocacional (SEV), the director of the Ginásios Estaduais Vocacionais de São Paulo (GEV's), and as a lecturer at the Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo (PUC-SP). The native of São Paulo also participated in basic instruction and professional training programs for unemployed youth and adults. Her doctoral thesis in Education was approved by the Faculdade de Educação da Universidade de São Paulo (FEUSP) on December 8, 1999, just 11 days before her death. This work will also address the severe repression suffered by the educator during the Military Dictatorship, a period in which she was compulsorily retired from the public school system in São Paulo, imprisoned for 76 days, and subjected to torture. The project aims to contribute to the historiography of Education, becoming a comprehensive and organized source that gathers the details of Mascellani's career. As the research is of a historiographical nature, its methodology consists of analyzing documents, decrees, periodicals, documentaries, academic publications, texts authored by the educator herself, and accounts from former colleagues, students, and family members.
