no exercício profissional.
This study aims to examine the concept of aporophobia and discuss how it is practiced in Brazilian society, in order to contribute to the studies on the subject and considering the importance of professionals in Social Work appropriating this concept, so that they do not reproduce aporophobic practices in their professional work. Based on this, a brief review of the concepts of poverty is carried out to define who suffers from this phobia, as it is the professional role to work on social issues, in which inequalities are products, and the relationship between the increase in conservative thinking in Brazil and the extreme right-wing electorate is sought, along with the large amount of reports and news denouncing generalized violence against the poorest. In this way, it is possible to understand the role of non-poor individuals and institutions in perpetuating pobophobia, which contributes to the maintenance of social inequality, making it difficult for people living in poverty to overcome it. Through bibliographic research and documentary research through media, newspapers, and online magazines to gather reported data on the reality of violence in Brazil today, we conclude by recognizing how education in all sectors — schools, families, media, public life — is essential for combating the discrimination that persists in common sense and in the neoliberal logic of production and disposal.
