De pernas pro ar: a presença da bananeira na obra de Gustavo Caboco

Abstract

Este estudo tem como objetivo apresentar e analisar a trajetória do artista indígena wapichana Gustavo Caboco tendo como recorte central o pé de bananeira, tanto a planta na sua forma real, como também no formato imagem, metáfora e ação, que está presente de maneira constante em sua obra. Trata-se de uma abordagem que visa não apenas reunir e comentar um grupo de obras do artista que possui comumente a figura da bananeira, mas também revelar como a questão territorial é traduzida a partir de um modo específico de lidar com o não humano, tendo como base o conceito de agência. Para contextualizar o trabalho desse artista indígena, ao longo do texto destacarei algumas exposições que contaram com a sua presença.

This research aims to present and analyze the trajectory of the Wapichana indigenous artist Gustavo Caboco, having the banana tree as a central motif, both the plant in its real form, as well as in the image, metaphor and action format, which is constantly present in the artist work. It is an approach that aims not only to gather and comment on a group of works by the artist who commonly have the figure of the banana tree, but also to reveal how the territorial issue is translated from a specific way of dealing with the non-human, having based on the concept of agency. To contextualize the work of this indigenous artist, throughout the text I will highlight some exhibitions that had his presence.
