From a historic perspective, the development of comics was fostered by media that conveyed them. Media, with their specific formats, are designed to meet certain communication needs and promote the spread of textual genres in society. It is therefore questioned whether use of different formats interferes in composition of content. It starts from the hypothesis that specific format present in media generates expectation in its reader and its modification can affect reading perception. The main objective of this research is to verify if using different formats, in media that convey texts in comics, interferes in the composition and perception of content. To this end, was adopted the expanded notion of text approached by Beaugrande (1997), Koch and Elias (2006), Marcuschi (2008), Cavalcante (2011), Koch (2015, 2018), Elias e Silva (2018) and Gualberto, Pimenta e Santos (2018); the concept of genre proposed by Bakthin (2011); of hypergender by Maingueneau (2013) and Ramos (2018); media studies based on research developed by Debray (1993), Marcuschi (2003, 2008), Maingueneau (2013) and Távora (2008, 2012); and about comics, by Gonçalo Junior (2004), Eisner (2010), Ramos (2007, 2018), García (2012) and Vergueiro (2017, 2017b). A qualitative comparative study was carried out with the first copy of each one of the following comic books: “Turma da Mônica Jovem” (2016), “Super Almanaque da Turma da Mônica” (2017) e “Turma da Mônica Geração 12” (2019), published by Mauricio de Sousa Productions. The analysis categories used in this research – matter, form and interaction – were defined from the studies presented by Távora (2008, 2012) and prioritize external physical aspects (material, dimension, shape and page make-up) and internal ones (diagramation and segmentation). The results showed that publications are similar in material arrangement of media and in diffusing aspects, but they have different formats that generate different expectations regarding the media and interfere in perception of content. It was concluded that different formats assumed by media interfere in composition of content and that the formal settings used generate expectations in its reader that affect reading perception.
