The objective of this paper was to investigate how this movement towards renewable energy is influencing the Latin-American region in areas such as regional cooperation, geopolitics and international trade. This work supports the hypothesis that Latin America countries could be fated to a technological dependency relation regarding the States that are pioneering the investments in such resources, despite having great mineral reserves that are critical for renewable industry, which could provide major bargaining power into international negotiations, while contributing to a higher dynamicity to their economies.
