realizou levantamento de matérias que: 1) mencionassem o termo desenvolvimento sustentável;
Among the theories on sustainable development in society, the one that says that it is equal to economic growth stands out. This vision, however, is limited, once sustainable development is broad, ranging from social justice issues – which can be defined as the guarantee of the fulfillment of the rights and duties of an individual in society – to environmental protection, in a way that the human species can ensure its survival over long periods of time. More than an essential cog in sustainable development, the search for social justice also helps to find it, thus showing that they are interdependent between each other. In order to investigate how this relationship is portrayed in a massive digital written media vehicle - in this case, the online newspaper “Folha de São Paulo” was selected, since it presented the highest number of subscribers between 2014 and 2019 - this paper has studied news and journalistic articles that: 1) mentioned the term “sustainable development”; 2) mentioned the terms “sustainable development” and “social justice”; and 3) mentioned both terms and addressed the interdependent relationship with them, published between 2015 and 2019; this time frame has been selected due to the publication, in 2015, of UM’s 17 objectives for sustainable development. In this period, there were 81 news and articles about “sustainable development”. Among those, 21 did not mention social justice; 46 did mention social justice; and 14 addressed social justice in a deeper way. The term “social justice”, in this paper, comprehends also any social issue related to the term sustainable development. Even though there was an increase in the number of news and articles that address “sustainable development” and “social justice”, the quantity and the quality of information published by the media is still lacking, since the relationship between both terms should be addressed in a deeper and clearer way, contributing with the dissemination amongst society that sustainable development goes a long way beyond the economy.
