A acne vulgar é doença comum que consiste em anomalia do processo de queratinização da pele. Caracteriza-se pelo aparecimento de lesões típicas inestéticas, inflamatórias ou não, e atinge, via de regra, a face e o tronco, onde aparecem “cravos” e “espinhas” que podem provocar repulsa e rejeição social. A adolescência constitui a faixa etária mais atingida pela acne vulgar, coincidindo com os conflitos inerentes a essa fase da vida: dificuldades nas relações afetivas e familiares, turbulência na construção da identidade, prejuízos da auto-estima e do autoconceito, distorções da auto-imagem e estados depressivos. No presente trabalho o autor associa a ocorrência da acne vulgar com os problemas próprios da adolescência, lançando mão do conceito de qualidade de vida, ou seja, relacionando a saúde com elementos psicofísicos e sociais. Foram entrevistados adolescentes com acne vulgar, empregando o teste específico SF-36 sobre Qualidade de Vida e questionário objetivando avaliar auto-imagem, auto-estima, autoconceito, relações familiares e sociais e expectativas ligadas ao tratamento da acne. Podemos concluir que as implicações psíquicas da afecção cutânea podem acarretar seqüelas emocionais; o tratamento auxilia na melhora da qualidade de vida. O teste SF36 não revelou resultados significativos.
Acne vulgaris is a common disease that consists of an abnormality of the keratinization process of the skin. It is characterized by the appearance of typical lesions, either in inflammatory or noninflammatory forms which affect mainly the face and the chest. It results in anunsightly appearance with pimples, blemishes and spots which may cause disgust and social rejection. Adolescence is the period more likely to be affected by acne vulgaris which coincides with inherent conflicts such as difficulty in dealing with relationship and family, turbulence in the construction of identity, loss of self-esteem and self-concept as well as distortions of self-image and depressive states. In this paper the author associates facets of adolescence with the occurrence of acne vulgaris. The concept of quality of life associating health with social and psychophysical elements in adolescents presenting acne vulgaris. Aside from the specific test SF-36 about quality of life there was a questionnaire with the purpose of assessing self-image, self-esteem, self-concept, social and family reationships and expectations related to skin treatment. We can conclude that psychological implications of skin disease may lead to emotional consequences; treatment can help to improve quality of life. The SF-36 test revealed no significant results.
