There are few studies published in Brazil on this subject. In the general population the prevalence of allergy to latex is less than 2%, whereas in healthcare workers it may reach 30%. OBJECTIVE: To study the prevalence of latex allergy in healthcare workers at the Hospital do Servidor Público Estadual de São Paulo. METHODS: A self-administered questionnaire was distributed to healthcare professionals from any sector of the hospital who have contact with rubber gloves. Blood was drawn from those who referred symptoms, for analyses of serum antilatex IgE antibody by Immunocap assay. Percentages, tables and the chi-square test were used for statistical analysis. RESULTS: A total of 2349 questionnaires were distributed, and 1045 were answered. In that, 129 reported association between latex and allergy symptoms and 54 out of them agreed to blood collection for specific IgE determination. Specific antibody was demonstrated in tow cases, determining a prevalence of 3.7% of latex allergy. Gender, occupation, frequency of use of gloves, work sector and past history of atopy were related to greater prevalence of latex allergy. CONCLUSION: The prevalence of latex allergy found was 3.7%.
- ItemSomente MetadadadosProfile of Latex Sensitization and Allergies in Children and Adolescents With Myelomeningocele in Sao Paulo, Brazil(Esmon Publicidad S A, 2013-01-01) Bueno de Sa, A. [UNIFESP]; Faria Camilo Araujo, R. [UNIFESP]; Cavalheiro, S. [UNIFESP]; Carvalho Mallozi, M. [UNIFESP]; Sole, D. [UNIFESP]; Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP)Background: Latex allergy is an important cause of occupational allergy. In many countries the prevalence of latex allergy is still high and the profile of latex sensitization is unknown. Objectives: To evaluate the frequency of sensitization and allergy to latex in children and adolescents with myelomeningocele and to identify associated risk factors. Methods: The study included 55 children and adolescents with myelomeningocele followed at a specialized center. In addition to a standard questionnaire and skin prick tests (SPTs) to aeroallergens and total latex, the patients underwent determination of total and specific serum IgE to latex and recombinant allergens. Results: We observed a prevalence of 25% for latex sensitization and of 20% for latex allergy. Twenty-four patients (43.6%) were atopic and the average age for the first reaction to latex was 44.5 months. Cutaneous reactions were the most frequently reported reactions (72.7%). Specific immunoglobulin (Ig) E to rHey b 1, rHev b 3, rHev b 5, rHey b 6.1, and rHev b 6.2 was detected in over 50% of patients allergic,to latex. Multivariate analysis showed current asthma, atopy, and having undergone 4 or more operations to be risk factors for latex sensitization. Conclusions: Our study documented a high prevalence of sensitization and allergy to latex in patients with myelomeningocele. Specific IgE to rHey b 1, rHey b 3, rHev b 5, rHey b 6.1, and rHey b 6.2 was detected in over 50% of children and adolescents with myelomeningocele who are allergic to latex. A history of current asthma, atopy, and having undergone 4 or more operations were independent risk factors for latex allergy.
- ItemSomente MetadadadosSíntese De Nanopartículas Poliméricas Com Estímulo Resposta Ao Ph Obtidas Via Polimerização Em Emulsão Para Produção De Carpete Reciclável(Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP), 2017-08-30) Cobianchi, Andreia Ferreira [UNIFESP]; Oliveira, Mauricio Pinheiro De [UNIFESP]; Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP)Automotive and industrial carpets are produced by impregnating polyethylene terephthalate (PET) fibers with aqueous dispersion copolymers in order to fix the fibers, provide dimensional stability and abrasion resistance. Currently, approximately 35% of the national carpet production is composed of chips and leftovers from the manufacturing process, which are incinerated or disposed of in landfills because it is impossible to remove the polymers used in the impregnation of the carpet fibers. The objective of this work is to develop polymeric nanoparticles with stimulus pH response to produce industrial carpets, aiming at the recycling of polymer fibers and nanoparticles for the production of new materials. Polymeric nanoparticles were obtained by emulsion copolymerization of styrene (STy), n-butyl acrylate (Abu) and acrylonitrile (ACN) in the absence of emulsifier. As a polymerization stabilizer, a copolymer of poly (methacrylic acid-co-methacrylamide) obtained via copolymerization of methacrylic acid (AMA) with methacrylamide (MA) was used. The copolymers obtained were characterized in relation to the overall conversion, average particle diameter, zeta potential, viscosity, molar mass, molar mass distribution (MWD) and reemulsification of the polymer film at different values of pH. The industrial carpets were produced by total impregnation and evaluated in relation to reemulsification of the polymer film under different pH values. Stabilizers of poly (methacrylic acid-comethacrylamide) with molecular weigh less than 10,000 g/mol showed the most promising results to produce the nanoparticles with response stimulus and mean diameter 80 nm in the absence of emulsifier, allowing the re-emulsification of the polymeric film when in contact with alkaline solution.
- ItemSomente MetadadadosSíntese E Caracterização De Látex Acrílico Obtido Via Polimerização Em Emulsão Para Produção De Tintas Empregadas Na Sinalização Horizontal(Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP), 2018-11-01) Silva, Caroline Reggiani Da [UNIFESP]; Oliveira, Mauricio Pinheiro De [UNIFESP]; Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP)The Horizontal Marking Is Used To Give Information That Allows The Routes Users To Adopt Adequate Behavior, Enhancing The Security And The Flow Of The Traffic, Besides, Being A Means Of Visual Communication Between The Lane And Its Users, Under Different Climate Conditions. Nowadays The Interest In Water-Based Road Marking Paints Is Increasing, Not Only Because The Incentive Of Federal Programs Like Br-Legal, But Also Due To Its Easy Handle, More Secure And Cleaner Production And Applying Conditions, And By The Lower Quantity Of Volatile Organic Compounds (Voc) Release. However, This Kind Of Paint Presents A Lower Drying Time With A Longer Period To Release The Road To The Pedestrians And Vehicles Traffic. Therefore The Main Objective Of This Work Was To Synthetize Stimuli-Response Copolymers Of Methacrylamide (Ma), Methyl Methacrylate (Mma), N-Butyl Acrylate (Ba) And Uma Stabilized With Different Concentration Of N,N-Diethyl-Aminoethyl Methacrylate (Deaema), With The Aim Of Understanding The Effect Of The De
