The São Paulo rivers had a great importance for the establishment and growth of the city of São Paulo, however, with the unrestrained urban development and the economic acceleration, the urban space goes through great transformations buildings and avenues take over the space the population growth is accelerated and the rivers which were the destination of the waste of urban life lose their space and their physical, chemical and biological characteristics. This condition, however, is not exclusive to the city of São Paulo, on the contrary, pollution and environmental degradation has been going along the development of societies, their economic activities and the configuration of the urban space. Thus, take London for example, the epicenter of the Industrial Revolution, where urbanization was accompanied by the degradation of England's most important river, the Thames River. This work intend to analyze the process of recovery and reintegration of the Thames in the city of London with the objective of supporting the analysis and evaluation of the existing strategies for depollution of the São Paulo rivers, Tietê and Pinheiros, as well as concretely evaluating the possible benefits of a process of reintegrating them into the urban environment of the São Paulo Metropolitan Region. For this, the analysis methodology is based on the historical processes that led to the pollution of the mentioned rivers and the initiatives taken to recover these waters in the two metropolises. In general, as expected, it was possible to list a series of environmental and socioeconomic benefits, in addition to listing the difficulties faced during the process.
