| dc.description.abstract | When a keratoplasty is indicated in the presence of important inflammation, cases with no responses to clinical treatment, it is called keratoplasty a chaud. One year of keratoplasty a chaud was analyzed regarding its indications, visual acuity (VA) in the postoperative period, complications, and clinical outcome.This study analyzed 20 eyes of 19 patients from the Cornea Sector who had submitted to keratplasty a chaud, with regard to indications, visual acuity, complications, and clinical cure. Infectious keratitis was the major indicating cause (n = 11 eyes, 55%). Clinical cure was observed in 19 eyes (95%). In only one case was there recurrence of the pathology that originally indicated the surgery (fungal keratitis). The main complication was the absence of clear graft. Also observed were glaucoma, cataract, synechiae formation, and inflammatory pupillary membrane formation, among other complications. In 95% of these cases the final visual acuity was below 0.1.It was concluded that keratplasty a chaud achieved good results regarding the disease eradication, but that another surgery was necessary to re-establish visual acuity. | en |
