- ItemSomente MetadadadosBasal cell carcinoma of the eyelid in children: a report of three cases(Nature Publishing Group, 2005-12-01) Al-Buloushi, A.; Filho, JPS; Cassie, A.; Arthurs, B.; Burnier, M. N.; McGill Univ; Royal Victoria Hosp; Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP)Basal cell carcinoma is the most common eyelid malignancy, accounting for approximately 90% of malignant eyelid tumours. Despite its prevalence in adults, it is extremely rare in children, and usually occurs in the setting of a known genetic defect or following radiotherapy treatment. We report three cases of de novo basal cell carcinoma in children. These children had no known genetic syndromes and had not undergone radiotherapy.

M.; Tomimori-Yamashita, J.; Fischman, O.; Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP)We report a case of tinea on the eyelid in a woman with psoriasis. Due to the history of psoriasis and clinical aspect of the lesion the diagnosis of psoriasis was suggested in the first place; however, laboratory examination revealed Microsporum gypseum. the patient was treated with oral itraconazole resulting in clinical and mycological cure. We emphasize the uncommon location of tinea caused by M. gypseum and the importance of searching for fungal infection on scaly lesions.

In women, ACD caused by nail varnish is frequent and often seen in the eyelids. ACD caused by drugs (e.g. neomycin) is also frequent in this region. However, DLE with periorbital presentation without evidence of systemic or other cutaneous involvement is rare.

[UNIFESP]; Burnier, Miguel Noel Nascente [UNIFESP]; Rigueiro, Moacyr Pezati [UNIFESP]; Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP); McGill UnivPurpose: To describe a case of eyelid sarcoidosis without systemic manifestations with a three-year follow-up. Methods: A 73-year-old woman presented complaining of a one-year history of swelling and hyperemia in the right upper eyelid. To confirm the diagnosis, we performed an incisional biopsy of the eyelid. Results: Histopathological examination showed a non-caseating granulomatous process suggestive of sarcoidosis. After three years, the patient was asymptomatic and physical and laboratory examination showed no signs of systemic sarcoidosis. Conclusion: the histopathological exam was fundamental for the diagnosis.
- ItemSomente MetadadadosPalpebral paracoccidioidomycosis(Kluwer Academic Publ, 1998-01-01) Burnier, Sergio Vanetti [UNIFESP]; Sant'Anna, Ana Estela [UNIFESP]; Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP)This paper describes two cases of eyelid paracoccidioidomycosis (South American blastomycosis) in which it was the first signal of the disease. In both cases the first clinical diagnosis made was not a fungal infection, but a neoplastic disease that was not confirmed by the pathology study. In the first patient we suspected a primary infection on the eyelid, because there was no other systemic signs of the disease, and in the second patient we noted a very advanced pulmonary lesions caused by the Paracoccidioides brasiliensis. We believe that, in endemic areas, the histopathological study should be made before every excisional procedures to avoid unnecessary palpebral mutilation.
