Objective: The present study has the objective of analyzing the medulloblastomas in adult patients related to their histological type, the proteins β-catenin and c-myc expression and associating the histopathological analysis with the immunohistochemical expression. Methods: Tumors from 24 adult patients with primary medulloblastoma were used, in order to do so. Results: Their median age was 31 years old, with a higher presence of male patients. From the clynical point of view, headaches were the most common complaint among them. The classic histology was also more predominant in this study. The majority of the studies presented a positive immonuexpression for nuclear β-catenin. The negative immunoexpression for c-myc was observed in most of the tumors. It was possible to observe an association between the classic histology and the nuclear immunoexpression of the β-catenin. The desmoplasic tumors presented an associoation with the expression of the cytoplasmic β-catenin. It was not possible to observe an association between the histologic type of the tumor and the c-myc expression. Conclusion: Our study was based in the use of β-catenin marker as it is widely validated throughout literature and because it enables the differences between the WNT and SHH pathway. When it comes to the expression of the c-myc marker, studies used the amplification techniques in order to determine it as a factor for prognosis. However, the technique of immunohistochemistry identifies characteristics of the tumor that improve the quality of individualized information and the results obtained can be associated to the genetic amplification in future studies.
