    Questionário de histórico linguístico de crianças bilíngues: adaptação, tradução e estudo piloto

    Goal: To adapt and translate a language history questionnaire for brazilian bilingual children and conduct a pilot study in order to investigate the adequacy and applicability of the material. Method: The questionnaire was developed, subjected to the translation process and pretested with 05 parents of bilingual children, enrolled at international schools in Sao Paulo. Parental feedback was collected, to assess the adequacy of the material and, having identified the necessary adjustments, the final instrument was produced. Results: Parental feedback revealed limitations of the questionnaire in relation to the investigated languages (Portuguese and English). The need for further instructions and clarity in the material was also identified, especially in the investigation of the daily interaction time between child and family, as well as the television viewing habits of bilingual children. Conclusion: This study produced versions of the questionnaire applicable in both languages (English and Portuguese). Both final versions, consisting of 34 items, were conceptually equivalent and demonstrated effectiveness in collecting most of the essential information about the history of language acquisition and usage by bilingual children.
