    Análise dos fatores associados à mortalidade em uma coorte de pacientes diagnosticados com Sarcoma de Kaposi

    Objectives: identification of factors associated with the death rate of people living with HIV/AIDS and Kaposi Sarcoma. Methods: this study is a retrospective analysis of a cohort of patients, regularly consulted at Centro de Referência e Treinamento em DST/AIDS de São Paulo. The data were collected through the analysis of medical records, with the evaluation of factors associated with the death rate in all the patients with confirmed diagnosis of Kaposi Sarcoma, indication of chemotherapy, and when it was possible, the evaluation of medical records (hardcopy or eletronical) from 2004 to 2014. Results: this study analyzed 338 patients with HIV+ diagnosis of Kaposi Sarcoma. There is a register of 45 deaths in patients with HIV+ and Kaposi Sarcoma. It was identified that the death rate on those patients was independently associated with the adherence to the TARV, (p=0,008) the observation of Kaposi Sarcoma on the upper digestive tract (p=0,006) and the Karnofsky scoring below 70 (p=0,011). Conclusions: the variables associated with the death rate identified reinforce the importance of an early diagnosis of Kaposi sarcome and the adherence to the TARV, avoiding the appearance of other opportunistic infections besides the sarcoma that increases the mortality on those patients. The presence of visceral diseases is an important complicating factor in patients with Kaposi Sarcoma and must be tracked even in patients with skin lesions without respiratory or gastrointestinal symptons.
