A chapter published in a US book in 2000 showed that there were 28 Rehabilitation Centers in Latin America, being distributed among eight countries. There is current information on the opening of new Centers in the countries previously studied and in new countries. However, there is no officially published data on these Centers. Objective: To identify Latin American Pulmonary Rehabilitation Centers and evaluate their characteristics and organizational aspects. Methods: A cross-sectional study with the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Centers answering by electronic transmission a questionnaire with 20 questions. Results: 217 Pulmonary Rehabilitation Centers were found throughout Latin America and a total of 136 (62.5%) Centers answered the questionnaire. Of these, 66.2% had private administration; 67.6% had an associated program for patients with heart disease; programs lasted 29 [20-36] sessions; the rehabilitation team consisted mainly of physiotherapists, physicians and dietians; 91.2% of the centers evaluated the patients with different questionnaires; 90.4% used treadmill and bicycle for exercises of lower limbs and 80% diagonals with weights to train the upper limbs of their patients; 78% had an educational program and 53% presented a home-based program. Conclusion: There has been a great increase in the number of Latin American Pulmonary Rehabilitation Centers, presenting diversity in organizational aspects.
