The liberal revolutions with a republican spirit, the development of social theories and revolutionary attempts based on these theories, such as the Paris Commune in 1871, served as argumentative basis for 70's Generation, who were the leaders of the movement, that opposed the monarchy system. Antero Tarquinio de Quental (1842-1891) was one of the mentors of the Portuguese Regeneration, which debated the process of marginalization of the nation, its causes and as well as possible solutions to overcome its backwardness. Antero sympathized with the socialist ideal and made it a policy proposal in the public debate. One example was his involvement in the Casino Conferences in 1871 and his political writings published in journals. The principles reflected and defended by the author were articulated with the political and social phenomena of nineteenth-century Europe, attributing to his conclusion about the socialist revolution a tone that was intended universal.Through the analysis of Antero's public writings, this project aims to study the construction of the Anteriano's political thought, and how the author built his ideas about republicanism, socialism and democracy. The analysis will focus on the years 1870- 1875, a period of strong political commitment of the scholar, which corresponds to the Democratic Conference of the Casino (1871) and the formation of the Portuguese Socialist Party (1875).
