Although we are not making a biographical work, it is essential to understand the trajectory of Pagu for the development of this monograph, since, for a communist militant, life and work are inseparable spheres. Taking the transformation of Galvao’s political thought as an analysis object, the central issue which drives this monograph intends to reflect on Pagu’s thought rupture process with Stalinism and with the Communist Party of Brazil (PCB), in the light of the thematic regarding the woman who is active in the political field, which is perceived as masculine in its essence, even by the most progressive sectors, such as the ones which are represented by the leftism. The analyses will be based upon the periodicals “O Homem do Povo” (1931), and “Vanguarda Socialista” (1945-48), freely translated as “Man of the People” and “Socialist Vanguard”, respectively, as well as the political pamphlet “Verdade e Liberdade” (1950), freely translated as “Truth and Freedom”. Thus, we’ll analyze Pagu’s written material in order to seek to understand them as a matter of self-identity and as a form of resistance to gender oppression.
