To that end, oral motor skills and praxis will be evaluated and then correlated with performance in speech production tasks. Method: A group of 75 children in elementary school, from 8 to 12 years old participated in the study. Fifty of these without speech changes and 25 with persistent speech difficulties. In order to assess the speech production processing (output), it were applied a picture naming test (ABFW), calculated PCC index, oral diadochokinesis test, pseudoword repetition test and rhyme production. The orofacial structures and functions were also evaluated and it was applied a praxis and oral motor skills test. The statistical study was done through the descriptive analysis of the data by means of absolute and relative frequencies, as well as measures of central tendency and dispersion. In the association analysis, the Chisquare test (X²) or Fisher's exact test were applied, and to analyze the possible correlations between the variables studied it was calculated the Spearman Correlation Coefficient. The study was complemented by a regression model, in which was adopted as adjustment the automatic stepwise variable selection procedure. The assumptions of the model were evaluated through the analysis of the residues (Neter et al., 2005), and a grouping analysis technique wasalso applied (Johnson and Whichern, 2007). The method adopted was the complete bond, with Euclidean distance. The cut-off values were established for the variables that best discriminate the groups through the construction of an ROC curve (Park et al., 2004). Results: Seventy-five percent (75%) of the children in the research group had mild speech disorders. The differences in performance were significant in all tests performed. Sixty percent (60%) of the children in the research group had difficulty performing tongue movements. The correlation tests showed worse performance of the Group Searched in all applied tests (but not in all variables).Conclusion: In the study group, the majority of children with persistent speech difficulties presented slight alterations (75%). All the tests pointed to worse performance of the Group Searched and the motor skills test showed difficulties of lingual movements. The group of children with persistent speech disorders presented lower performance in speech production (output) and difficulties in the oral motor domain.
