    “Amante, amásia, transeira e subversiva”: as representações de Iara Iavelberg na grande imprensa durante a ditadura civil-militar

    This Senior Thesis analyzes corporate media representations of the São Paulo-based urban guerrilla Iara Iavelberg during the civil-military dictatorship that controlled the Brazilian government from 1964 to 1985. The case of Iavelberg was selected because of the relatively high level of attention she received for being her relatively prominent representation in mainstream newspapers as the mistress of Carlos Lamarca, one of the dictatorship’s more notorious opponents. The main objective is to understand how the press constructed the image of the “female militant” during a time of intense conflict. The research concurs with other literature in demonstrating how being a woman contributed to extremely disparaging representations since, especially at that time, the conventions of morality and good manners demanded that woman stay within the private sphere – caring for children, husband and home –leaving the public sphere to men.

    Carlos Marighella e a luta armada contra o regime militar no Brasil.: A guerrilha urbana e as perspectivas da revolução brasileira (1968-1969)

    This monograph presents an analysis of the political trajectory traced by Carlos Marighella from 1956 to his death in 1969. One of the main points examined are the 1968 and 1969 manifestations of his changed relationship to the pacifist political line gradually adopted by the Brazilian Communist Party (PCB) since 1956. It argues that PCB pacifivism directly influenced the perspectives of struggle advocated by Carlos Marighella. After a few years of struggle with himself and the leadership, Marighella went on to become one of the leading advocates and leaders of armed struggle and urban guerrilla action. Marighella defended these tactics as the main means of conftonting the military-civilian dictatorship that tookover control of Brazil following a coup d’eta in April 1964 and remained in power until 1985. In addition to an extensive bibliography, the main primary sources used for this work were the “Pronouncement of the communist grouping of São Paulo,” dated February 1968, the Minimanual of the urban guerrilla, dated June 1969, and the document entitled “Perspectives on the Brazilian Revolution,” dated September 1969.

    Narrativas e resistências: mulheres que atuaram na luta armada brasileira (1968-1974)

    Esta pesquisa tem como objetivo analisar a atuação das mulheres na luta armada contra a ditadura civil-militar no período que compreende os anos de 1968 e 1974, pois foi a partir da instituição do Ato Institucional nº 5 que houve um endurecimento do regime. O fio condutor do trabalho são os depoimentos das ex-guerrilheiras dados à Comissão Nacional da Verdade entre os anos de 2013 e 2014, para, a partir de suas narrativas, entender suas atuações políticas e como a questão do gênero permeou suas lutas, experiências e a repressão que sofreram nas mãos dos torturadores.
