    Sacrilégios, desacatos e irreverências : Inquisição portuguesa e conflitos jurisdicionais (Séculos XVI-XVIII)

    This monograph seeks to analyze how the Inquisition treated the acts of sacrilege, irreverence and contempt to the expressions of the sacred in Modern Portugal (XVI-XVIII centuries). From the documentation of the institution itself, it is reasonable to hypothesize that there is an increasing effort of the Portuguese Inquisition in bringing its jurisdiction the power to prosecute such offenses. It is intended to reflect on the relationship of this court and other instances of the administration of justice (episcopal justice and especially royal justice) on the demarcation of the jurisdiction of such specific cases in order to better understand the process of definition and consolidation of the operating area of Portuguese Holy Office, as well as the assertion of its power and importance on that society.
