- ItemAcesso aberto (Open Access)Avaliação de descritores na angiologia e cirurgia vascular em artigos publicados em dois periódicos nacionais(Sociedade Brasileira para o Desenvolvimento da Pesquisa em Cirurgia, 2003-01-01) Oliveira, Eymard Francisco Brito De [UNIFESP]; Oliveira, Heriberto Brito De; Azevedo, João Luiz Moreira Coutinho [UNIFESP]; Fagundes, Djalma José [UNIFESP]; Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP); Membro Efetivo da Sociedade Brasileira de Angiologia e Cirurgia Vascular; Universidade Vale do Rio Verde de Três Corações Mestre e Doutorando em Educação; Faculdade de Ciências Médicas de Minas Gerais Médico Residente em Cirurgia Cardiovascular da Santa Casa de Misericórdia de Belo HorizonteMeSH - indexed internet health directories must provide a fast and safety research of the scientific information. Otherwise, for this purpose, it is necessary that the authors choose the adequate and available headings. Our research goal is to explore two brazilian vascular medical journals from the headings included in MEDLINE and LILACS documents and determine how well the authors were using the medical subject headings. The Medline and Lilacs database were searched from published 1996 to 2000 and queried with the list of DeCs 2001(MeSH Portuguese version) and MeSH 1994. We describe here that about 186 articles were reviewed, in two journals of the speciality and found that most of them were out of the standard terms suggested by the MeSH. We concluded, despite the indexation must be a dynamic performance, the authors must be better informed about the rules of inclusion of new headings and how to apply the adequate key words.
- ItemAcesso aberto (Open Access)Design and level of evidence of studies published in two Brazilian medical journals recently indexed in the ISI Web of Science database(Associação Paulista de Medicina - APM, 2010-07-01) Torloni, Maria Regina [UNIFESP]; Riera, Rachel [UNIFESP]; Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP)CONTEXT AND OBJECTIVES: The level of evidence and methodological quality of articles published in medical journals are important aids for clinicians in decision-making and also affect journals' impact factor. Although systematic reviews (SR) are considered to represent the highest level of evidence, their methodological quality is not homogeneous and they need to be as carefully assessed as other types of study. This study aimed to assess the design and level of evidence of articles published in 2007, in two recently indexed Brazilian journals (Clinics and Revista da Associação Médica Brasileira), and to evaluate the methodological quality of the SRs. DESIGN AND SETTING: Descriptive study developed in the Brazilian Cochrane Center, Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP). METHODS: All 289 published articles were classified according to types of study design and level of evidence. The SRs were critically appraised by two evaluators using the AMSTAR tool. RESULTS: The most frequent design types were cross-sectional studies (39.9%), case reports (15.8%), experimental studies (10.8%) and narrative reviews (7.4%). According to the Oxford criteria, 25.6% of the articles were classified as level 4 or 5 evidence, while 2.8% were level 1. SRs represented only 2% of the published articles and their methodological quality scores were low. CONCLUSIONS: The main design types among the published papers were observational and experimental studies and narrative reviews. SRs accounted for a small proportion of the articles and had low methodological scores. Brazilian medical journals need to encourage publication of greater numbers of clinically relevant papers of high methodological quality.
- ItemAcesso aberto (Open Access)O fator de impacto influencia na ética das instruções aos autores de uma revista?(Associação Médica Brasileira, 2013-06-01) Teixeira, Renan Kleber Costa; Yamaki, Vitor Nagai; Gonçalves, Thiago Barbosa; Botelho, Nara Macedo [UNIFESP]; Silva, José Antonio Cordero da; Universidade do Estado do Pará; Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP)OBJECTIVE: Verify whether a journal's impact factor is a mechanism that modifies the ethi cal requirements described in the instructions provided to authors of articles published in Brazilian medical journals. METHODS: 48 selected journals were divided into two groups: impact-factor (n = 24), and no impact-factor (n = 24). The number of ethical requirements was compared between both groups based on a specific research protocol, ranging from zero to six points, analyzing the presence of an approval by a research ethics committee; reference to the fact that the research follows the precepts of the Declaration of Helsinki and the rules of Resolution 196/96; use of an informed consent; information about the authors' conflicts of interest; and a request for registration of clinical trials in the Brazilian Clinical Trials Registry. RESULTS: The average score of the impact-factor group was significantly higher than that of the no-impact-factor group (3.12 ± 1.03 vs. 2.08 ± 1.64, p = 0.0121). When each ethical requirement was compared between the groups, there was significant difference only between the requirement of an informed consent and the disclosure of conflicts of interest (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION: The impact factor is a determinant factor on the ethics included in the instructions to authors of articles in scientific journals, showing that higher-quality journals seek better-designed articles that are conscientious at the beginning of the research.
- ItemAcesso aberto (Open Access)O sexteto mágico da pesquisa clínica(Soc Brasil Cirurgia Cardiovasc, 2009-04-01) Pitta, Guilherme Benjamin Brandão [UNIFESP]; Roque, Francelise Pivetta [UNIFESP]; Pitta, Marina Regueira; Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP); Univ Estadual Ciencias Saude Alagoas UNCISAL; UCBThis article approaches sonic general guidelines for evaluating clinical research (design, execution and reporting), including the initial research idea (or question to be answered), hypothesis and objective which should be aligned with the primary variable to be investigated and the conclusions reached on the basis of the results of the study. One cannot forget that the study title should reflect the idea and relative objective of the study and the conclusion, emphasizing the Magic Sextet of Research.
