Methods: We evaluated 46 women victims of sexual violence with PTSD (PTSD+) and 51 women who did not experience sexual violence and did not have any psychiatric diagnosis (CTRL). All participants were administered the Clinician-Administered PTSD Scale (CAPS), the Mini International Neuropsychiatric Interview (MINI), the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT), the Life Events Checklist (LEC), the Peritraumatic Dissociative Experience Questionnaire (PDEQ), the Wechsler Abbreviated Scale of Intelligence (WASI), the Digit Span subtest of Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale – 3rd edition (WAIS-III), the Spatial Span subtest of Wechsler Memory Scale – 3rd edition (WMS-III), the Wisconsin Card Sorting Test, the Five Digit Test (FDT), the Prospective Memory subtest of Brief Neuropsychological Assessment Instrument (NEUPSILIN) and the Stroop Test. Results: PTSD+ group had a worse performance compared to CTRl group in all neuropsychological functions assessed: flexibility, inhibitory control, working memory, and prospective memory. The data also show that educational level and the intelligence quotient (IQ) are protective factors for the development of dissociative symptoms in PTSD. Conclusions: This study is essential to know the cognitive deficits associated with PTSD and to think neuropsychological rehabilitation strategies so that these women can resume their activities of daily living without harm.
