    This research attempts to examine how the Catholic religion was expressed in the shipwrecks reports of galleon S. João and ship S. Bento, both of the sixteenth century, and published in the first volume of the Tragic-Marine History. In this way, I intend, to analyze the use of the Catholic religion made by this men whose manned these ships, considering the creeds about the sea, the extreme situations experienced by the survivors of those shipwrecks and the adversity and needs faced by them.
