Legally protected by Condephaat in 1998, this house has the figure of Sebastiana de Mello Freire, a rich madam known by Dona Yayá, diagnosed with a psychiatric illness and since then confined in her own property, as reference to the collective memory. This paper objectifies the study of the heritage process of the building, through the analysis of the process of legal protection by the Defense Council of Historic, Archaeological, Artistic and Touristic Heritage (Coondephaat). It will discuss the aspects of the property valuation, the arguments for the legal protection, as remaining of the way of life in the Bexiga neighborhood and in the city of São Paulo in the mid-nineteenth century, the small ranches in urban area, and the memory of the way of thinking and treating madness in the first half of the 20th century.

Os órgãos de patrimônio são instituições públicas de reconhecimento do Patrimônio Cultural e são responsáveis por escolhas específicas atribuindo valores oficiais. O presente trabalho busca analisar as escolhas do Conselho de Defesa do Patrimônio Histórico, Artístico, Arqueológico e Turístico de São Paulo (Condephaat) a partir de sete processos de tombamento arquivados, ou seja, que não foram aprovados. Os processos são todos referentes ao tombamento de casas na cidade de São Paulo, e tramitaram entre os anos 1974 e 2009. O objetivo é entender os motivos para a não valoração que justificaram a não preservação e determinaram o desprezo de alguns bens pelo poder público. Ao historicizar o processo de funcionamento do órgão pretende-se contribuir para a compreensão das políticas e práticas no campo do patrimônio cultural no Brasil.

- ItemAcesso aberto (Open Access)Entre a geografia e o patrimônio: estudo das ações de preservação das paisagens paulistas pelo Condephaat (1969-1989)(Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP), 2014-08-28) Crispim, Felipe Bueno [UNIFESP]; Paiva, Odair da Cruz [UNIFESP]; Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP)The present study investigates the different actions of preservation of natural areas developed between 1969 and 1989 by the Council for Defense of Heritage, Historic, Artistic, Archaeological and Tourism - CONDEPHAAT - the Council is responsible for the safeguarding of the heritage of São Paulo and a pioneer in protecting landscape as cultural heritage. The emergence of natural areas as an object of preservation in São Paulo, during the period of the study, raised the search for comprehension of different ways of understanding and perceiving landscape and its historicity within the trajectory of this institution for São Paulo’s heritage. The objective is to map the nature of these actions that have shaped this experience in the construction of the debate about the relationship between landscape and heritage in São Paulo, revealing their singularities. Beyond it, this work intends to scale the public impact and insertion of these themes in the political debate of that time. The main sources used in this research are the processes of heritage register of natural areas, opened by the Council between the 1970s and 1980s, as well as newspapers of mainstream media.

Two differents institutions produced these preservation processes: CONDEPHAAT, at 1969 and 1982; IPHAN, at 2010. So, the work analyses two sets of photos: the first one, into the states processes, contains 49 images; the second one, into the federal process, contains 324 images. It's important to focus that both institutions collected these sets of images during the course of the preservations processes. To reveal these sets of photos for a second time, by analysing them, looking for the real meaning behind of the photos, it consists our subject.
