Recent studies have shown that health promotion and disease prevention are fundamental to changes nowadays and Senior Centers are identified as creative and innovative structures in order to propose new interventions. Objective: Evaluate the influence of activities developed in Senior Centers concerning the health of elderly people in Santos. Method: For the development of the study it was evaluated fifty elderly that joined the Senior Centers on the second half of 2013 and were followed longitudinally, through bimonthly phone calls, and reassessed after twelve months of participation in activities. Assessment tools used were: Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE), The Clock Drawing Test (CDT), Verbal Fluency Test (VF), Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS), Tinetti´s PerformanceOriented Mobility Assessment of Gait and Balance (POMA), Independence in Activities of Daily Living Index (Katz Index), Scale of Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADL) developed by Lawton and Brody and Quality of Life assessment (WHOQOL-OLD and WHOQOL-BREF). Results: A Group Full Participation (GFP) was formed, with 29 participants who performed activities during the 12 months of follow-up and Intermittent Participation Group (GPI), with 19 participants who performed activities for at least 2 months and a maximum 10 months. There was a sample loss of 3 participants who did not perform any activity at folow-up. It was possible to identify performance improvements of GFP in cognitive, emotional, physical, functional domains and quality of life. It was found interaction of variables CDT (p < 0.01), POMA (p <0.05), WHOQOL- BREF (p <0.01) and WHOQOL- OLD (p<0.01). Physical activity was identified as the predominant activity carried out by the elderly in and out of Senior Centers. Health Care was identified as the initial goal and the highest prevalence in the search for senior centers but it was also the main reason for impediment in carrying out the activities. The perception of achieving its initial goals was reported by 100% of GFP participants and 62.48 % of the GPI participants. Conclusion: The participation of older people in the activities developed by senior centers during the twelve month period, with a positive impact on the health of elderly participants in all domains assessed.
