However, regarding to the mechanics of the stomatognathic system, little is known about the consequences. Objective: evaluate the effect of BTXA application on mandibular movements and relative bite force balance of patients with clinical bruxism. Material and method: We included 10 volunteers with severe clinical bruxism and distributed in 2 groups according to imbalance of relative bite force between right and left side: G1:> 10% and G2: <10%. The BTXA was applied to the 40U masseter muscles (two points: 20U each point with 1.0cm distance) and 30U per Temporal (three points: anterior 10U, average 10U and posterior 10U.The relative bite force, occlusion time (OT) and discclusion time (DT) were measured using the computerized occlusal analysis system TScan®III before and after 15, 45, 90 and 120 days of the procedure. The data were submitted to statistical analysis (p < 0.05). Results: Significant differences were observed only for G1 in the bite force at 15 days ( = 0.028), in OT at 90 (= 0.043) and at 120 days (= 0.027) at the right side DT ( = 0.046) and 120 days (= 0.028), DT left side at 15 (= 0.043) and 90 days (= 0.027), DT protrusion between 45 and 90 days ( = 0.043). Conclusion: When BTXA was injected into muscles of patients with bruxism, was necessary to consider that the effects of relative bite force could be observed within the first 15 days and the effects on mandibular excursion movements appeared later. The computerized occlusal analysis TScan®III may be an important tool to help us to demonstrate the effects of the use of BTXA as a therapeutic resource.
