    O transporte do açúcar entre Pernambuco e Portugal: quantificação e dinâmica da economia do transporte no Atlântico Português, 1756 – 1807

    The objective of this research is to analyze the dynamics of sugar transport between 1756 and 1807 in the captaincy of Pernambuco. Assuming that there was a separation between the transport business (traffic) and the commodity sugar bussiness (trafficking) and, therefore, the mercantile groups who commanded the two operations, loads of sugar and freight series were constructed using systematization of cargo maps listed in the Arquivo Histórico Ultramarino documents, digitized by Projeto Resgate Barão do Rio Branco. The total number of vessels and transported sugar , their prices , their forms of storage and vessel owners, seeking to identify the mercantile groups who worked in the transportation business were also quantified. This serial analysis allowed discuss possible ruptures and continuities and the different situations in the two classes of business, contributing to a better understanding of the sugar commodity chain and the organization of communities of merchants in the Portuguese Atlantic.
