O presente trabalho propõe analisar a dinâmica da circulação de roupas de segunda mão através de brechós, tendo como ótica a realidade, vivência e as necessidades da periferia dos grandes centros urbanos. Entretanto, para chegar nessa formulação, há toda uma trajetória repleta de discussões que lhe antecedem. Para isso, se faz necessário entender o que é moda e sua dimensão ao se tratar dos impactos em âmbitos sociais, econômicos e políticos. E, ainda, discutir e repensar a estrutura, o consumo e as práticas de sua indústria, visando alternativas que sejam menos agressivas, desde a produção à comercialização das roupas. Nesse mesmo debate, existem alguns possíveis caminhos colocados em evidência que desconsideram as diferentes realidades sociais no Brasil e relatam dificuldade em trazer as classes populares para essa discussão. Em vista disso, o objetivo central é entender como a cultura de brechós, a partir da vivência comunitária, pode ser uma alternativa para democratizar a moda sustentável. Nessa lógica, após conhecer os limites que a moda esbarra ao tentar avançar, a questão que fundamenta o problema de pesquisa é: de que forma as práticas ancestrais periféricas, como a cultura de brechós, podem ampliar a noção de moda sustentável e tornar essa pauta mais democrática?
The present work proposes to analyze the dynamics of the circulation of second-hand clothes through thrift stores, having as a perspective the reality, experience and needs of the periphery. However, to arrive at this formulation, there is a whole trajectory full of previous discussions to this one. For this, it is necessary to understand what fashion is and its dimension when dealing with impacts in social, economic and political spheres. And, yet, to discuss and rethink the structure, consumption and practices of its industry, seeking alternatives that are less aggressive, from production to marketing of clothing. In this same debate, there are some possible paths highlighted, which disregard the different social realities in Brazil and report the difficulty in bringing the lower classes into this discussion. In view of this, the central objective is to understand how the culture of thrift stores, based on community experience, can be an alternative to democratize sustainable fashion. In this logic, after knowing the limits that fashion faces when trying to advance, the question that underlies the research problem is: How can peripheral ancestral practices, such as thrift store culture, expand the notion of sustainable fashion and make this agenda more democratic?
