This is a Psychology course conclusion work in which a qualitative research was carried out that aims to know the life and work of the Brazilian musician, and exponent of the country´s counterculture, Raul Seixas, and his interface with the anti-asylum struggle. For this purpose, it is proposed to carry out a bibliographical survey on the meanings that his works and actions had in Brazilian culture, especially in a period of strong repression and censorship, the military-business dictatorship of 1964, in which his media appearance took place, and mainly to point out influences they had for the field of mental health. Data analysis was performed by reading the articles found online that deal with the topic. We found Raul Seixas songs on several websites and articles dealing with mental health. The use of arts and music, highlighted here, is an important factor for the involvement of users of mental health services among themselves and with health professionals. This encounter with counter-hegemonic forms of mental health care is the result of the broad movement of deinstitutionalization and paradigm shift that took place in the area, from the second half of the 20th century, known as psychiatric reform. Trough it, it has changed and has been constantly changing, through an uninterrupted struggle, the look and treatment that the society has for people in psychological distress, seeking to deal with the concreteness of real people in their unique and dynamic processes, and putting the abstractions of nosological classifications in parentheses, a situation that was reversed to this one, in mental health care, before the reform.
